Santa Clara, Calif. - June 12, 2008 - One of the biggest and most popular consumer health fairs in the country is in discussions with The Big Sleep Show to add important new healthcare considerations to its lineup: sleep and alertness. NBC-TV and its free, annual health expos, which attract upwards of 100,000 attendees in major markets throughout the United States, is prepared to include a "Big Sleep Show Pavilion", a multi-booth, interactive exhibit area highlighting the importance of sleep for better health and wellness.

"NBC appreciates that sleep problems can have a profound effect on chronic health concerns like heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, depression and much, much more," said Dr. Thomas Roth, the advisory board chair of The Big Sleep Show. "Considering that we spend about one-third of our lives sleeping and sleep is as essential as air, food and water, highlighting sleep health issues in this way is long overdue," Roth added.

The NBC health expos are organized in major U.S. markets, which commit extensive amounts of broadcast time and involvement of on-air personalities to ensure the success it has enjoyed for as many as 15 years in some cities. "We have great relationships with the community, local and national vendors, and a proven formula for making health education a fun and informative experience for the whole family," said Jody Oshita-Bajor, business development manager for WMAQ-TV NBC-5 in Chicago, a key proponent of the collaboration. She added, "We were amazed to learn about the extensive role of sleep on health and wellness. We believe that a 'Big Sleep Show Pavilion' would be a popular and important component of our community health outreach efforts."

NBC health expos have been popular events for as long as 15 years and take place in Boston; Chicago; Columbus, OH, Dallas, Hartford, CT.; Los Angeles; Miami; Philadelphia; San Francisco; and Washington, DC, as well as in other cities organized by independent NBC affiliates. The events attract from 25,000 to more than 100,000 consumers in each city.

"By showcasing the importance of sleep and alertness for the first time ever at such a successful and well-attended venue, we are very enthusiastic about the enhanced role The Big Sleep Show can have in helping the millions of Americans who struggle with their sleep and those interested in how sleep can improve overall health and wellness," commented Reid Blank, creator of The Big Sleep Show. "By grouping exhibitors and presenters with a focus on sleep and alertness under one tent, so to speak, a 'Big Sleep Show Pavilion' would generate a lot of attention, and help people to make the connection between getting good sleep and feeling healthier in their daily lives," Blank added.

A complete list of participating NBC health expo venues and dates is expected to be available in July. Sponsors, exhibitors and presenters would have the option of participating in selected individual events or multiple venues as part of a cost-saving package.
