Ira L. Shapira, DDS

Dr Shapira is the director of Dental Sleep Medicine at Sleep and Behavioral Medicine Centers and dental editor of Sleep & Health Journal. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and a Member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He is currently working with Merit Sleep centers to make Dental Sleep Medicine conveniently available across Chicagoland.

Dr Ira L. Shapira has been treating sleep apnea, snoring and other sleep disorders for over 25 years. He treats sleep disorders by making and fitting commercially available oral appliances as well as unique customized appliances for unique needs. He is consultant to several Illinois sleep centers where his protocol for appliance titration is employed.

Dr. Shapira is a charter and credentialed member of the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, formerly known as the Sleep Disorder Dental Society. He is a founding member of DOSA, the Dental Organization for Sleep Apnea. He is a diplomate of the Academy of Pain Management, a fellow of the International Academy of Craniomandibular Orthopedics and a representative to the TMD alliance for that group.

Dr Shapira teaches courses to dentists from across the United States who come to his Gurnee office to learn Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr Shapira is the founder and partner of Delany Dental Care Ltd where he concentrates his practice on Sleep apnea, TMJ disorders, chronic pain relief and reconstructive implant and aesthetic dentistry. He holds several device and method patents on collection of stem cells and minimally invasive early removal of wisdom teeth.
