As the Vice President of Strategic Development and Research for Kingsdown at the Sleep to Live Institute, Dr. Robert Oexman oversees the Institute's research of sleep and how the environment impacts sleep. Unlike traditional sleep labs, the Sleep to Live Institute is dedicated to a holistic approach to sleep research with a team of engineers developing unique testing equipment based upon the needs of the research team and the variables being tested. The group holds a variety of patents related to the monitoring and treatment of sleep complaints.
Dr. Oexman's passion for sleep research began while working as a respiratory therapist in 1982 at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City Missouri. After receiving his chiropractic degree he was in private practice for four years before working at Leggett & Platt, Inc., a multi-national, Fortune 500 Company. While there, Dr. Oexman developed and managed an Ergonomic Research Center focused on bedding, furniture, and automotive seating. He developed novel testing methods and was granted several patents as they relate to product testing. As the director of a medical division for the company he was awarded patents for products related to patient care and remote patient monitoring. He also held positions as vice president of sales, marketing and international sales.
Dr. Oexman received his Doctor of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri and his Masters in Business Administration from Missouri State University. He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and received his post-graduate training in sleep at the Sleep Medicine Center in Stanford, California. Dr. Oexman has worked on research projects at Stanford University and Duke University. He lectures on the topic of sleep to physicians, manufacturers, retailers and the general public in the United States and internationally. Dr. Oexman is also an adjunct professor in the business department at Missouri State University where he lectures on the topic of strategic business development.
