Melanie Chavin, MS

Melanie Chavin is the Vice President of Program Services for the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Illinois Chapter. In the past, Melanie has worked with persons with dementia and their caregivers in a variety of residential and community-based settings. Her experience includes providing direct care, education, training and geriatric consultative services to organizations and programs serving older adults.

Melanie holds a Bachelor's degree in fine arts from De Paul University and a Master's in Human Services/Gerontology from National-Louis University. She is a graduate of the Diakonia program, a two-year program of theological instruction for Lutheran laity.

Melanie is the author of the book, "The Lost Chord: Reaching the Person with Dementia through the Power of Music." She has written numerous articles on music therapy, dementia, and aging-related issues, has written and co-written a number of dementia-related training curricula, and has contributed to several books.
